Can't Stop

red hot chili peppers

"Can't Stop" is a song written by the band The Red Hot Chili Peppers about living without control sometimes and about how fame can take hold of people. In this song I think the lead, Anthony Kiedis, is talking about himself personally for the most part. He says in the song, "Choose not to live a life of imitation, distant cousin to the reservation" which is reffering to his almost acting career that he could have imitated from his father, and that he has a native american background.
Getting involved in the music industry was a dream that The Red Hot Chili Peppers acheived and thats a big part of what the song is about. "The world I love, the tears I drop, to be part of the wave can't stop"- a peice of lyrics explaining that this is a world the band has come to know and love and that even though they've suffered in the industry, they still love it and can't get away from it. The way of life for them now is a life of fame and fortune that they're accustomed to now.
Another part of the song is about how the business is always moving and there's a new and up-and-coming band that can take over the popularity your band once had. The record labels and fans move on which can bump a good band down a level, hurting their income upon other things. "Ten more reasons why I need somebody new, just like you,", these lyrics are describing how the music business is looking for anyone with a similar sound that will make them all their money. Overall, the song is talking about the addiction they have to their music and not being able to ever let go of it.
