Can't Stop

red hot chili peppers

"Can't Stop" is a song written by the band The Red Hot Chili Peppers about living without control sometimes and about how fame can take hold of people. In this song I think the lead, Anthony Kiedis, is talking about himself personally for the most part. He says in the song, "Choose not to live a life of imitation, distant cousin to the reservation" which is reffering to his almost acting career that he could have imitated from his father, and that he has a native american background.
Getting involved in the music industry was a dream that The Red Hot Chili Peppers acheived and thats a big part of what the song is about. "The world I love, the tears I drop, to be part of the wave can't stop"- a peice of lyrics explaining that this is a world the band has come to know and love and that even though they've suffered in the industry, they still love it and can't get away from it. The way of life for them now is a life of fame and fortune that they're accustomed to now.
Another part of the song is about how the business is always moving and there's a new and up-and-coming band that can take over the popularity your band once had. The record labels and fans move on which can bump a good band down a level, hurting their income upon other things. "Ten more reasons why I need somebody new, just like you,", these lyrics are describing how the music business is looking for anyone with a similar sound that will make them all their money. Overall, the song is talking about the addiction they have to their music and not being able to ever let go of it.

My life be like Ooh Ahhh

The song by Grits, "My Life Be Like", is a song that you may hear on any regular radio station or see in someones ipod. While this is no big surprise because this is a good song, its actually pretty ironic. If you take a look at the lyrics to this song you will see that they're actually spiritual. The song sounds like a hip-hop song with its smooth rhythm and flowing lyrics but listening to those lyrics is the surprising part about the song. I've personally heard this song many times but I had never taken time to listen to what they were or look them up, but after I did I saw how the song has more meaning to it then just a beat and some rapping. The lyrics "Lord if you see me please come my way. Leavin bread crumbs for when I stray, rely on sacrifice and the price you paid," shows how the song talks about Christ and help that this person is looking for in Him.
"I'm callin on my savior to be all that I need please forgive me my behavior had me lost at light speed", these lyrics are probably my favorite of the song, showing how this person wants redemption. This song can also be a nice way to lift someones's spirit and help them get through a rough day they might be having. I don't know any other songs by Grits, but this is deffinately one of thier best.
