A song by the Eagles called Hotel California is an old song but its also deffinately a classic. I interpret the song to be about a man so drowned in fame and the life that comes with it that he dies and arrives at a place that he is unfamiliar with. In the song the man has to stop on the highway which signals his death. The "shimmering light in the distance" is when he passes over. The song even says "This could be heaven or this could be hell," pointing out that he doesn't know where he's arrived. Then he talks of the woman with her possesions and her "pretty boys" which is a sign of where he is at.
Now the song is getting near the end and the man says, "We are all just prisoners here Of our own demise," and he is realizing he put himself there. He knows he ended up in hell due to his own actions and decisions. Since he has realized his mistakes, he asks to leave but the response he gets are those famous lines, "You can check out any time you like But you can never leave." These lyrics mean that now he has repent for his time on earth but he cannot leave hell once he had arrived.
I don't listen to many old songs, but this is one of my favorites. It has a nice mellow feel to it and the Eagles aren't a bad band themselves.

Electric Feel
So even though I don't listen to their band much, MGMT has one good song under their belt. Electric Feel. This song has a smooth beat and it's pretty catchy. The lyrics don't have as many words as most songs but it has lyrics that are descriptive and to me they give away what they're actually talking about.
Many people beleive this song is about the way a guy feels about an amazing girl that he gets the chills from just looking at. The lyrics are confusing to someone who maybe listened to this song for the first time, or someone who isn't trying to pay attention to the real meaning. This song, like many, manyyy other songs, is about addictive drugs. Don't let the lyrics fool you when they mention "her". Yes, they describe this feeling as though it's about a girl, but thats just a way to mention the drug without having to really say it.
When the song says, "She gonna teach me how to swim," it's making a connection to the prescribed drug called oxycontin. When someone refers to 'swimming' they are reffering to oxycontin. This drug is medically used as a pain killer but many people who are prescribed become addicted. So it's really no surprise that this song is really all about the feeling this band gets when ever they are using it.
It's pretty sad that songs these days are all about drugs, sex, partying, and getting "f-ed" up, but thats just about all those people are doing now. Once a person becomes famous and starts gaining bigger and bigger pay they don't know what to spend it on anymore and turn to drugs and having their own type of twisted fun. I'm sure this wasn't the case about 70 years ago, but times change. People are now doing things that they don't think will effect them or they don't even care. Personally, I wish people could understand how much their decisions really effect them and the people who care about them.
